The Book of Ram [Paperback]
Book Description
The Book Of Ram is a book with a fresh perspective written by noted author, Devdutt Pattanaik. It which outlines the entire story of the Ramayana taking into consideration various accounts of the great Indian epic, right from the standard Sanskrit Aryan version, to the Dravidian version, all the way upto the Burmese, and the Thailand versions.
Instead of simply narrating the entire story as a linear script, the author tries to build a strong character map of Rama, the prince, the heir, the ascetic, the warrior, and the ideal king, through different situations and circumstances that are cited from the epic. In this regard, the painstaking efforts of the author are commendable for bringing out an entirely unique narrative.Clearly, by citing the various interpretations of the same story, a lot of research has gone into the work. Yet, there is an immense level of care taken not to cloud the reader’s understanding of the grand epic, and throughout most of the book there is a thread of contiguity, which makes the reader appreciate the author’s viewpoints better.
